NEW YORK (AP) -- One moment, Felix Hernandez was rounding the bases in glee after hitting the first grand slam by an American League pitcher in 37 years.
A few innings later, he was spiking his cap to the ground in frustration after being injured.Hernandez hit a stunning grand slam off Johan Santana, then departed with a sprained ankle before he could qualify for a win in the Seattle Mariners' 5-2 victory over the New York Mets on Monday night.Fast Facts
• Felix Hernandez became the first pitcher to hit a grand slam since Dontrelle Willis in 2006 as the Mariners have now won six straight games vs. the Mets.
• The grand slam hit by Hernandez was his first career home run and the first grand slam ever hit by a pitcher in interleague play.
• Hernandez allowed just an earned run in 4 2/3 innings before leaving the game in the fifth with an ankle injury trying to cover home plate on a wild pitch.
• The Mariners are 3-1 all-time at Shea Stadium and won for just the third time in their last 10 games.
