Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Arlington, Texas
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- If Sidney Ponson keeps pitching this well, the New York Yankees might be able to get by without injured starter Joba Chamberlain.
Ponson delivered a much-needed strong outing in his return to Texas, Jason Giambi homered, and Mariano Rivera showed no signs of an aching back in saving New York's 5-3 win over the Rangers on Wednesday night.Fast Facts
• With the win Wednesday, the Yankees snapped a three-game road losing streak. They are only the AL team this season not to lose four straight road games
• The Rangers have lost 11 of their last 13 home games vs. Yankees.
• Jason Giambi hit his 386th career home run and passed Dwight Evans and Vladimir Guerrero for 50th place all-time.
• Giambi is 4-for-8 with two home runs and three RBIs in three games since shaving his mustache after the Aug. 3 game.
