• B.J. Upton hit his fifth homer of the 2008 playoffs, becoming the youngest player to reach five HRs in a postseason. At 24 years, 53 days, Upton passed Albert Pujols, who hit five in 2004 at 24 years, 275 days.
• Tampa Bay hit four homers, one shy of the record for the most allowed by Boston in a postseason game. The Red Sox gave up five to the White Sox in the 2005 ALDS.
• After going 11-1 at Fenway Park during the regular season, Jon Lester took the loss.

Lester needed just four pitches to get through the first inning, then he walked Longoria to lead off the second. After not allowing a leadoff runner in his previous two playoff starts, he let the leadoff man on in three consecutive innings. ... Boston SS Alex Cora and RF Baldelli started Monday for the first time in the ALCS. ... Upton has hit safely in six consecutive playoff games. ... Byrd made his first relief appearance since the 2004 playoffs, when he was with Atlanta. ... Upton hit three homers against Chicago in the first round and one against Boston on Saturday. Longoria also homered in Game 2, when the upstart Rays evened the series.
