SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Franklin Morales pitched as though he belongs in Colorado's rotation.
One of several candidates for the team's final starting spot, Morales threw four shutout innings Saturday in a 9-7 victory over the
San Francisco Giants.
"I don't think about it. I just need to do my job," said Morales, competing with
Greg Smith and
Greg Reynolds for a vacancy created by left-hander
Jeff Francis' shoulder injury.
Clint Barmes had four hits and four RBIs, while Jonathan Herrera added two hits and two RBIs for Colorado.
Barmes had a three-run double in the Rockies' five-run fourth inning and a run-scoring single in a three-run sixth. The Rockies won for the second time in nine games this spring.
Matt Cain pitched three scoreless innings for the Giants in his third spring start, the first in which he has not given up a run.
"My curve felt good," Cain said. "I found something in the bullpen the other day. I wasn't fully committed to throwing the pitch."
Aaron Rowand had a two-run double in San Francisco's three-run sixth. The Giants have lost three in a row.
Brian Rohlinger hit a three-run homer with two outs in the ninth inning, his second of the spring, enabling the Giants to maintain their streak of homering in all 11 exhibition games. Rohlinger also hit a two-run shot in the ninth inning of a 5-4 loss to the
Los Angeles Angels on Friday.
San Francisco leads the majors with 17 spring training homers, one more than Kansas City.
Travis Ishikawa and
Brian Bocock had two hits apiece for the Giants. Ishikawa has 10 hits this spring, tied with second baseman
Emmanuel Burriss for the team high. Burriss committed two fielding errors, his first two of the spring.
Morales made the Colorado rotation out of spring training last season but was returned to the minor leagues in April and did not make it back to the majors.
He gave up nine hits and five earned runs in his previous outing, a loss to the Los Angeles Angles.
"I'm never down. The last game is in the past. I need to stay in control and do my job," he said.

Tim Lincecum will make his next start Wednesday against Japan's World Baseball Classic team. Japan advanced to the second round with a 14-2 victory over South Korea on Saturday and will stop in Arizona en route to second-round play in San Diego, which begins March 15. Lincecum has retired 20 of the 22 batters he has faced in three spring training starts. ... LHP
Randy Johnson will make his third spring training start for a Giants split squad Sunday against Oakland. Non-roster invitee Kevin Pucetas will start against the Los Angeles Angels in Tempe.
