MESA, Ariz. -- Cubs manager Lou Piniella thinks there is still plenty of time to get pitcher Rich Harden enough work before spring training ends.

Harden was scratched from his scheduled start Friday against the San Diego Padres because he had a stomach bug.

Pinch-hitter Reed Johnson hit a two-run homer off Kevin Correia in the fourth inning and Chicago went on to beat the Padres 5-3.

The Cubs have taken it easy on Harden all spring because of his history of shoulder problems. The 27-year-old Harden has pitched in two games this year, working 4 2-3 innings.

"We'll have to see what the best program is for him when he's capable of getting back on the mound," Piniella said. "There should be (enough time). And if there isn't, we'll make more time."

Minor league pitcher Mitch Atkins started in place of Harden and gave up a pair of unearned runs in the first inning. With two outs, Chase Headley hit a grounder to second baseman Mike Fontenot, who bobbled the ball for an error. Kyle Blanks followed with his fourth home run of the spring.

The Cubs scored in the first and third innings against Correia. In the fourth, Correia walked No. 8 hitter Sam Fuld with two outs.

Johnson followed with his first homer of the spring, a drive to left-center.

"I took what could have been a real good outing and turned it into a bad one," Correia said. "I'm confident in my ability. It could have been better today."

The Padres managed just four hits against the Cubs. Carlos Marmol and Kevin Gregg, both of whom are competing for the Cubs closer job, followed Atkins. Marmol pitched two perfect innings. Gregg worked 1 1-3 innings, giving up one hit and striking out three.

Piniella said he'll make a decision on the closer's job by the middle of next week.

Game notes
Cubs 1B Derrek Lee missed his fourth straight game because of a sore right quadriceps. Piniella said he'll likely play Sunday. ... Cubs 3B Corey Koskie, in camp on a minor league contract, met with the team training staff Friday, one day after taking himself out of a game because he felt lightheaded. Koskie is attempting to make a comeback from post-concussion syndrome. He has not played in the major leagues since 2006, when he sustained a concussion while playing for Milwaukee. ... The game was played before 13,162 fans. The Cubs announced that as a Cactus League record.
