Mariners 5, Giants 1

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- The Seattle Mariners weren't fazed at all by San Francisco's 1-2 pitching punch.

The Mariners scored two runs off Giants starter Randy Johnson and three more off designated reliever Tim Lincecum in a 5-1 victory over the Giants on Monday.

On a day in which two former Cy Young Award winners pitched, Seattle rookie Chris Jakubauskas had the best pitching line of all. Jakubauskas, working his way into contention for a spot on the major league roster, gave up one run and three hits in five innings to lower his spring ERA to 2.16 in 16 2-3 innings.

"He's exceeded our expectations, at least mine," manager Don Wakamatsu said. "He's aggressive. He mixes his pitches. He has some tenacity to him."

Wladimir Balentien hit his third homer of the spring off Johnson in the second inning, and Yuniesky Betancourt had a run-scoring double in the third for a 2-0 lead.

Balentien had three RBIs, adding a sacrifice fly and a run-scoring single off Lincecum, who pitched the final six innings.

Jose Lopez and Rob Johnson each had two doubles and scored two runs for the Mariners.

Johnson made his first start since March 8 and his first appearance since a minor league game March 13, after being pushed back because of biceps soreness. He gave up three hits, with no walks or strikeouts, while making 40 pitches.

"I just felt a little rusty. I'm glad it came back as quickly as it did," Johnson said. "When you haven't pitched in 10 days, it could be real inconsistent. You could be throwing balls into the ground."

Manager Bruce Bochy said after the game that Johnson will be No. 2 in his rotation behind Lincecum. Matt Cain, Barry Zito and Jonathan Sanchez will follow in the rotation.

Lincecum, the 2008 NL Cy Young Award winner, gave up three doubles and a single while striking out one.

"I was in a good rhythm. Not too quick, like I was last time," said Lincecum, who had been pushed back from a previous start because of the flu.

Pablo Sandoval had three of San Francisco's five hits, including his third spring home run.

Seattle 1B Russell Branyan was given a day off after fouling a ball of his foot Sunday. Branyan is hitting .340 with four home runs and 11 RBIs. ... San Francisco optioned 3B Ryan Rohlinger, SS Brian Bocock, and RHPs Billy Sadler and Waldis Joaquin to the minors and reassigned 1B Scott McClain to the minor league camp. ... The Giants have 36 players in camp, including seven non-roster invitees. ... Giants RHP Kelvin Pichardo was suspended 50 games by major league baseball for testing positive for the use of a performance-enhancing substance. Pichardo, at Triple-A Fresno, will begin his suspension at the start of the regular season. ... RHPs Felix Hernandez and Carlos Silva, 2B Jose Lopez and OF Endy Chavez returned to Seattle's spring training camp after playing for Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic.
