SAN DIEGO -- On a Wednesday night when offense was hard to come by, a barehanded play by closer Heath Bell was the highlight of San Diego's 2-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants.
Bell timed Emmanuel Burriss' chopper perfectly, grabbing it with his right hand and firing it to first baseman Adrian Gonzalez for the second out of the ninth inning. Bell struck out Rich Aurilia to finish the perfect inning, earning his 11th save in as many chances and helping the Padres to their fifth straight win.Fast Facts
• Chad Gaudin, making his first home appearance since Sept. 21, 2008 (previous eight appearances were all on road), allowed one earned run in six innings pitched and won for the first time in four decisions this season and first time in a start since April 28, 2008.
• Kevin Kouzmanoff, the only Padre in the top seven spots of the lineup to record a hit, homered for the second time in three games. (Kouzmanoff had one home run in his first 35 games this season.)
• San Diego has won five straight following a six-game losing streak.
