W: Z. Greinke (8-1)
L: E. Jackson (4-3)
Greinke's ERA rises to 0.84 with his fifth complete game; he's now 8-1
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Probably the last thing Justin Verlander wanted to do was make Zack Greinke a better pitcher.
But unwittingly, he did.Greinke paid close attention to the way Verlander shut out Kansas City through seven innings in an easy Detroit win on Monday. Then the Royals ace took the best stuff he's had all year to the mound on Tuesday night and tossed a six-hitter in a 6-1 victory over the Tigers.Full-Time Pitcher
Zack Greinke's stellar outing against the Detroit Tigers puts him in some elite company. He's the fifth pitcher to have at least five complete games in his first 10 starts in the last 15 seasons.
| Pitcher | Season | Complete Games |
| Zack Greinke | 2009 | 5 |
| Roy Halladay | 2008 | 5 |
| Mark Mulder | 2003 | 5 |
| Randy Johnson | 2000 | 5 |
| Curt Schilling | 1999 | 5 |
Fast Facts
• With his 0.84 ERA, Zack Greinke became the first pitcher since Juan Marichal in 1966 to post an ERA below 1.00 over the first 10 starts of the season. Greinke improved to 6-0 at home this season and has not allowed a home run in his last 103 innings.
• Coco Crisp left the game in the fourth inning with a sore right shoulder, but his replacement, Mitch Maier, filled in nicely with his first three RBIs of the season.
• The loss was just the third in the last 11 games for the Tigers.
