NEW YORK -- A day after one of his worst relief outings, Mariano Rivera was right where he wanted to be: back on the mound.
Unlike Saturday, when his manager ordered him to walk Evan Longoria, Rivera got his chance to face Tampa Bay's slugger, this time with two outs in the ninth inning and a one-run lead to protect.Fast Facts
• The Yankees scored three in the eighth inning on a walk, an error and a fielder's choice. They have now won seven of their last 10.
• The Rays fell to 3-1 at Yankee Stadium this season and had their four-game win streak snapped. Tampa Bay dropped to 1-20 when scoring less than four runs.
• Mariano Rivera got his 495th career save one day after losing to the Rays.
• Nick Swisher hit the 100th home run in the 28th game at Yankee Stadium.
• B.J. Upton had an RBI for the fourth straight game.

Game notes
Girardi is 200-183 in his third year as a major league manager. ... Yankees setup man Brian Bruney had a bullpen session. Out with a strained right elbow, Bruney has pitched only once for New York since April 21. He said the 30-pitch session was a "huge positive step."
