Mother Nature helps Marlins hold off Red Sox in game called in 6th
BOSTON -- Ricky Nolasco held the Red Sox to one hit in the first five innings Thursday night, and the Boston weather took care of the rest.
Dan Uggla and Ronny Paulino homered for Florida, and Nolasco gave up Kevin Youkilis' shot before the Marlins earned a 2-1 victory over Boston when the game was called early in the sixth because of rain.Officially six innings
The Red-Sox Marlins game ended in the top of the sixth inning because of rain. Even though the Red Sox did not bat in the bottom of the sixth, and no outs were recorded in the top of the sixth, all stats accrued in the top of the sixth count.
According to a Baseball Advanced Media official who oversees live statistics, the game was official after five innings and all stats count after that regardless of when it ends.
MLB rule 10.03 states that: If a regulation game is called, the official scorer shall include the record of all individual and team actions up to the moment the game ends. A called game ends at the moment the umpire terminates play, unless it becomes a suspended game.
