CHICAGO -- Home runs come a lot easier than triples for Albert Pujols.
The St. Louis star managed one of each Friday as the Cardinals beat the Chicago Cubs 8-3 to kick off the final weekend before the All-Star break.Fast Facts
• Albert Pujols homered to tie Ralph Kiner for the most in a player's first nine seasons at 351. It was his 40th career homer against the Cubs, the most among active players.
• Ryan Ludwick went 3-for-3 with four RBIs, the second time this season he's had three hits and four RBIs in the same game.
• Chris Carpenter allowed three earned runs in six innings pitched as he improved to 2-0 against the Cubs this season and 9-3 career against them. St. Louis has won seven of nine overall.
• Rich Harden allowed four earned runs in five innings pitched. He has a 7.59 ERA at home this season. The eight runs allowed by Chicago was only two fewer than they gave up over the previous four games combined.

Game notes
Carpenter has allowed only four homers all season. ... Pujols drew an intentional walk in the first, his 32nd this season. ... Mark DeRosa, who spent the previous two seasons with the Cubs, returned to Wrigley Field sooner than expected. DeRosa was with the Indians three weeks ago when they visited for an interleague series. On Friday he was back in Chicago with the Cardinals, who acquired him from Cleveland in a June 27 trade. "It's kind of weird," said DeRosa, who is on the disabled list with a wrist injury. "I found myself on a last place team and within a couple of days I'm in first place in the NL Central, battling against the Cubs."
