Yankee Stadium, New York, NY
W: C. Sabathia (12-7)
L: C. Buchholz (1-2)
NEW YORK -- CC Sabathia shut down the Boston Red Sox just like A.J. Burnett did, putting the New York Yankees in position for a pivotal four-game sweep.
Sabathia didn't allow a runner past second base while pitching into the eighth inning and New York beat Boston 5-0 for its sixth consecutive win.Lead Off Success
Jacoby Ellsbury can't be blamed for the Red Sox lack of offense against the Yankees the past two games. Boston's leadoff hitter has four of the team eight hits. Here's a look:
| Ellsbury | Rest of Team | |
| H-AB | 4-9 | 4-67 |
| BA | .444 | .060 |
| SB | 2 | 0 |
| Times past 1st base | 3 | 4 | *Team has no extra-base hits |
Why Sabathia Won
• First 18 batters: 0-17, 4 K, BB
• Red Sox batters chased 6 of 7 changeups out of the strike zone
• 83 percent of 1-1 counts became 1-2 counts (batters were 1-17 in 2-strike counts)
• 10 of 14 swinging strikes came against left-handed batters

Game notes
Boston LF Jason Bay ran before the game for the second straight day and said his injured right hamstring felt good. He hopes to play in the next couple of days. ... The Yankees also shut out Boston in consecutive games at Fenway Park in 2002.
