L: Z. Miner (5-3)
BOSTON -- The way Josh Beckett has been going lately, he certainly didn't need all the offense the Boston Red Sox are providing the past few days.
Beckett pitched seven strong innings for his major league-high 14th win, Mike Lowell and Jason Bay homered and the Red Sox beat the Detroit Tigers 8-2 Wednesday night. Why Josh Beckett Won
• The Red Sox starter had amazing command of his fastball, throwing 50 of 62 (80.6 percent) for strikes (MLB avg 64 percent).
• The Tigers were 2-for-18 (.111) with 3 K's against his fastball.
• Beckett threw at least one of first two pitches for a strike 92 percent of the time.
