Phils are 12th team with 30-homer foursome; Lidge has shaky outing
WASHINGTON -- No time to celebrate the first 30-homer foursome in Philadelphia Phillies history, or the second good start in a row from Pedro Martinez, or even the end of a four-game losing streak.
There was only one question following Tuesday night's 5-3 win over the Washington Nationals: Is Brad Lidge still the closer?Charlie Manuel wasn't saying for sure, although Lidge seemed to think the job was still his after a postgame meeting between player and manager. The meeting was necessary because -- only a few hours after giving Lidge a public vote of confidence -- Manuel found himself having to yank Lidge from the game in a ninth inning in which the reliever retired only one of four batters.Fast Facts
• Raul Ibanez hit two home runs, his 13th career multi-homer game and fourth of the season, as the Phillies snapped a four-game losing streak.
• Ibanez and Chase Utley both reached 30 HRs in the game, making the Phillies the 12th team in MLB history with four 30-homer players and only the second with three left-handed batters to reach 30 homers (those two plus Ryan Howard). The first was the 1929 Phillies trio of Lefty O'Doul, Don Hurst and Chuck Klein.
• Pedro Martinez (6 2/3 IP, 3 ER) improved to 4-0 with the Phillies; they are 6-0 in his starts. It's the first time the Phillies have won a pitcher's first six starts with the team since Pat Combs in 1989.
• The Phillies have won eight straight against the Nats.
