W: V. Padilla (1-0)
L: J. Pineiro (0-1)
ST. LOUIS -- Unemployed in August and a star for the Los Angeles Dodgers in October. Once Vicente Padilla got out of the first inning, he slammed the door on the St. Louis Cardinals' season.
The second-chance pitcher kept Albert Pujols and Matt Holliday quiet in a 5-1 victory Saturday night that gave Los Angeles a second straight trip to the National League Championship Series.Neel: Out Of Nowhere
The Dodgers hadn't seen much of Vicente Padilla since picking him up after he was released by Texas. But he was everything they needed Saturday night against the Cards, writes Eric Neel. Story
Big-Game Dodgers
The Dodgers haven't even let their opponents get settled in during the last two National League Division Series. Los Angeles has taken control from the get-go in both series.

Fast Facts
• Vicente Padilla pitched 7 scoreless innings for the Dodgers as they swept the series. It was Padilla's first career postseason start, and he became the first Dodgers hurler to throw 7 scoreless innings, allowing four or fewer hits, in a postseason game since Orel Hershiser in the 1988 World Series.
• Andre Ethier and Manny Ramirez both went 3 for 5 with 2 RBIs. Ethier was 6 for 12 in the series with 2 HR, 3 RBIs and 4 runs.
• The Dodgers were 1-12 in their first 13 NLDS games before last season, losing all four series. They have swept the past two NLDS series, including the Cubs last fall.
• It's the first time the Dodgers are appearing in back-to-back NLCS since 1977-78 (they won both series vs. Philadelphia and lost both World Series to the Yankees).
