PEORIA, Ariz. -- Third baseman Chase Headley had two hits, including an RBI triple, and the San Diego Padres scored six runs in the seventh inning to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 9-4 on Friday.

Matt Kemp and Rafael Furcal each had two hits for the Dodgers while Manny Ramirez singled and walked in three at-bats.

James McDonald's chances for a spot in Los Angeles' bullpen took a hit when he allowed six runs and six hits and two walks in 1 1/3 innings.

Padres starting pitcher Chris Young continues to feel strong in his return from arthroscopic shoulder surgery.

The right-hander, who had the surgery in August, loaded the bases with one out in the first inning, but retired Casey Blake on a popup and Ronnie Belliard with a strikeout.

Young said he got stronger as he continued and threw strikes on 50 of 82 pitches.

He allowed three runs and seven hits and three walks while striking out three in four innings.

"First and foremost I feel good," Young said. "Stuff's pretty good. I pitched myself into a couple of situations where I had to battle, but you're going to see that in the season, too. So it's good to be in those situations a little bit and to be able to work out of them."

Dodgers starter Hiroki Kuroda also allowed three runs and seven hits in four innings. He walked one.
