ATLANTA -- Brooks Conrad slowed up as he rounded first base, unsure if his drive had cleared the left field wall to give the Atlanta Braves an improbable victory.
In a Pinch
Brooks Conrad entered Thursday batting .167 and slugging .333 with no homers and no RBIs as a pinch-hitter this season. With one swing of the bat, Conrad raised his pinch-hit slugging percentage by 282 points.

Game notes
Troy Glaus had three hits for the Braves. ... Cincinnati third baseman Scott Rolen got the day off. Baker described him as "very sore and tight." ... Braves pitcher Kenshin Kawakami developed another blister on his right foot during a start Wednesday night, and he also pitched with a strained back. The Braves are off next Monday, so Kawakami could be skipped if needed.
