W: H. Takahashi (4-1)
L: J. Blanton (1-3)
NEW YORK -- Hisanori Takahashi is making a habit out of fooling some of baseball's best hitters with his double-pump leg-kick motion and deceptive changeup.
In his second big league start -- both against last year's World Series opponents -- Takahashi threw another six scoreless innings and the New York Mets shut out the Philadelphia Phillies for the second straight game, 5-0 on Wednesday night."He's a great pitcher with great instincts," Mets manager Jerry Manuel said. "He had great command of his pitches."More From ESPNNewYork.com
Hisanori Takahashi was just the latest no-name Mets pitcher to give the team a lift, writes Adam Rubin. Story

• It was the fourth time the Phillies were shut out this season. They were shut out seven times last year.
• The last time the Phillies were shut out three times in four games was June of 1990.
Game notes
The Mets last held the Phillies scoreless in back-to-back games in July 1998, at Shea Stadium. ... Dickey, hit on the left elbow by a liner Tuesday, said he should be fine to make his next start Sunday. ... Manuel said he is considering Nieve for a spot start Saturday. ... Phillies C Carlos Ruiz was not in the starting lineup because his right shoulder has been a little banged up. ... Barajas was hit on his right wrist by a wild pitch that bounced in the dirt in the seventh inning. X-rays were negative but he was very sore after the game. He was not sure if he could start Thursday.
