• Ted Lilly ended his five-game losing streak but became the first Cubs pitcher to have a no-hitter broken up in the ninth inning since Frank Castillo in 1995.
• It was the longest duel no-hit bid of the year and the first to have two pitchers go through six innings since Kevin Brown (Marlins) against William Van Landingham (Giants) in 1997.
• It was the first 1-0 game in the 75-game history of the Cubs-White Sox rivalry.
• The win helped the Cubs snap a three-game skid while putting an end to White Sox's four-game winning streak.
Game notes
The only double no-hitter through nine innings in major league history was May 2, 1917, at Wrigley Field, with Cincinnati's Fred Toney and Chicago's Hippo Vaughn on the mound. The Reds beat the Cubs 1-0 in 10 innings.
