Game notes
New York SS Jose Reyes was selected to his third All-Star team and hopes to play. He missed his fifth straight game Sunday with lower back tightness. "It's still a week away, so let's see what happens. I think I'm going to play before that," Reyes said. ... Washington RHP Matt Capps was picked to his first All-Star game. He is 2-3 with a 3.19 ERA and 22 saves. He led the player balloting for relief pitchers. "It says that peers and people who see you and are around you all the time think enough of you to think you're one of the best in the league at this time," Capps said. ... Mets RHP Mike Pelfrey was not chosen for the All-Star game despite a 10-2 record and a 2.93 ERA. "I would have liked to have gone and sit there and watched the Home Run Derby with my kid," Pelfrey said. He is scheduled to pitch next Sunday, which would have eliminated him for playing in the game. ... The Mets struck out 14 times, tying a season high.
