Research Notes
On Thursday, Rick Porcello retired the first 10 White Sox batters before Omar Vizquel singled with one out in the 4th. On Wednesday, Jeremy Bonderman retired the first 10 White Sox batters before Omar Vizquel hit a solo homer with one out in the 4th. ... It's the first time this season that teammates have had identical perfect-game bids of 3 innings or more against the same opponent in back-to-back games. ...
The only other time that pitchers retired the first 9+ batters of the same team in consecutive games was on July 26 and 27. The Indians' Jake Westbrook and Josh Tomlin both disposed of the first nine Yankees they faced, although Westbrook retired the 10th as well. |
The Tigers finished Thursday's game with 13 hits, all singles. It's the first time they've had that many hits in a game, without an XBH, since May 11, 2004, vs Oakland. They had 14 singles and lost that one 5-4 in 15 innings. Their last such nine-inning game (and also the last Tigers win) was on June 12, 1993, over Toronto (won 12-1 on 15 singles). |
Johnny Damon recorded singles in his first four at-bats Thursday afternoon, marking the 36th four-hit game of his career. However, it's his first four-hit game this season, and thus his first as a Tiger. It's the first time Damon's had four singles in a game (no XBH) since June of 2008. |
