Brent Lillibridge's key catches help White Sox hold on against Yankees
NEW YORK -- White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen discovered a new way to protect a late lead. He brought utility infielder Brent Lillibridge off the bench and then planted him in right field.
Lillibridge made two spectacular catches in a row to save the White Sox in the ninth inning and Gavin Floyd pitched Chicago to a 3-2 victory Tuesday night over the suddenly slumping New York Yankees.More White Sox-Yankees Coverage

Research Notes
The Yankees had 3 hits on Monday and 4 hits on Tuesday. This is the first time since July 2004 that the team has been held to 4 hits or fewer in consecutive home games. The last time they were held to 4 hits or fewer in 3 straight home games was May 1970. |
Rafael Soriano has allowed 2 runs tonight. This was the third time this season he allowed multiple runs in a game.
He only had 2 such outings in all of 2010. |
How White Sox starter Gavin Floyd beat the Yankees:
Effective curveball: Floyd threw 32 curveballs (31.4 percent of total pitches) and the Yankees struggled. They went 1-for-10 with six strikeouts in at-bats ending with a curveball.
Continued success with two strikes: Floyd threw 29 pitches with two strikes, but retired 13 hitters, 10 by way of strikeout. This season, opponents are hitting .127 (8-for-63) with 33 strikeouts in two strike at-bats.
Kept the ball down: Floyd threw a season-high 57 pitches down, including 31 down below the zone. The Yankees went 1-for-12 with three strikeouts, including four of the at-bats ending with a pitch down below the strike zone. |
Paul Konerko now has 10 home runs in the Bronx, all of which have come as a White Sox player. That's the third-most home runs for a White Sox player at the old-or-new Yankee Stadiums, behind Joe Kuhel (16) and Harold Baines (11). |
