Research Notes
Because Adrian Gonzalez dropped a foul ball prior to Rickie Weeks' leadoff homer, it meant Weeks' run was unearned as charged to Lester. Since when have you seen an unearned leadoff homer? ... Well, since July 4, 1979, at Wrigley Field. Warren Cromartie of the Expos led off the game with a home run, but Cubs 3B Steve Ontiveros had previously dropped a foul ball and allowed that at-bat to continue. |
Rickie Weeks and Corey Hart went back-to-back off Jon Lester to start things for Milwaukee on Saturday. Weeks and Carlos Gomez led off the season with back-to-back homers on March 31. That makes the Brewers the first team since the 2003 Yankees to lead off two or more games in a season with back-to-back homers. Those Bombers did it on April 6 at Tampa (Soriano, Nick Johnson) and against on June 28 at Shea Stadium (Soriano, Jeter). |
