DENVER (AP) -- The Arizona Diamondbacks' 12-game winning streak
ended Tuesday night, with Ronnie Belliard hitting a tiebreaking
home run in the seventh inning that sent the Colorado Rockies to a
The Rockies hit four homers in breaking Arizona's team-record
winning string. It was the best streak in the majors since the
Oakland A's won 20 in a row last Aug. 13-Sept. 4.
Belliard's solo homer put the Rockies ahead 5-4. In the eighth,
Belliard had a bunt single that drove in another run.
Javier Lopez (2-0) pitched 1 1-3 innings to earn the win.
Andrew Good (3-2) went 6 1-3 innings, allowing nine hits and
five runs, including all four Colorado homers.
Steve Finley's two-run homer helped the Diamondbacks jump out to
their early lead. He finished with four hits.
Colorado's Denny Stark, making his season debut after being
sidelined three months with a torn muscle in his pitching shoulder,
went 4 2-3 innings. He gave up seven hits and four runs and left
with a 4-1 deficit.
Walker led off the Rockies' fourth with a homer, his ninth, just
inside the right-field foul pole.
Arizona chased Stark in the fifth, despite failing to score. The
Diamondbacks loaded the bases with two outs, but reliever Nelson
Cruz struck out Shea Hillenbrand.
Wilson's two-run shot in the fifth cut the lead to 4-3. With two
outs, Todd Helton doubled off the left-field wall and Wilson
followed with a 437-foot homer to center, his 18th.
Payton's leadoff homer in the sixth made it 4-all.
Belliard homered with one out, chasing Good. It was Belliard's
second homer of the season and first since April 29. Payton added
an RBI single.
Matt Kata led off the game with a single -- his fifth straight
hit -- and Finley followed with his 11th homer.
Lyle Overbay doubled in the Arizona second and scored on Chad
Arizona loaded the bases with no outs in the third on two
singles and a walk, and a run scored on David Dellucci's
The Rockies placed RHP Shawn Chacon on the 15-day DL
because of soreness in his pitching elbow. ... Arizona ace Curt
Schilling (broken right hand) will make his first rehab start
Wednesday with Triple-A Tucson. ... Helton extended his hitting
streak to 16 games, a career best. ... Wilson made a sliding catch
in right-center to rob Overbay in the fourth.
