With the Giants creeping up on the Rockies in the NL wild-card chase, is Colorado feeling the heat? Here's their take:
Manager Jim Tracy: "Here's the deal. Here's our situation. It's very simple. It's black and white. There's no gray. There's no middle area. We've got an opportunity to win a game in this series, which is something that we're obviously striving for, and you move on and you're 3½ ahead. Or you lose and you're 1½ ahead and then everything's up for grabs. I'm not sitting here saying to anybody that we're trailing. We're not going to trail. We've still got a lead. But the opportunity of having a cushion versus giving it back -- that's what tomorrow is all about."
Shortstop Troy Tulowitzki: "I mess around with our trainers all the time and I say, 'We don't want to run away with this thing. We want to play meaningful games all the way through because come playoff time, that's what we're going to have to do anyway, and I think that helps.' So I like where we're at, that we're keeping it close and not running away with this thing." Do the trainers like that kind of talk? "No, they don't like to hear that," a laughing Tulowizki said.
• Barry Zito reached 10 wins for the ninth straight season as the Giants pulled to within 2½ games of the Rockies for the NL wild-card lead.
• The Giants are 10-7 against the Rockies this season, their most wins against Colorado since 2005.
• The Rockies have lost four straight.

The Rockies need two more wins away from Coors Field to match their highest total for road wins in club history: 39-42 in 2007. ... The Giants activated Johnson after he'd been on the 60-day DL since early July with a shoulder injury. He came out fine from his simulated game Monday. He will pitch out of the bullpen. San Francisco placed RHP reliever Justin Miller on the 60-day DL with inflammation in his right elbow, ending his season. Miller went 3-3 with a 3.18 ERA in 44 outings. "It's tough. It's disappointing," he said. "I'll root these guys on. For me, it was the last thing I wanted to hear." ... San Francisco SS Edgar Renteria had an MRI on his left shoulder that showed a mild strain. He is nursing biceps tendinitis in his left arm and a sore right shoulder. Bochy expects him to start Wednesday.
