With Brett Gardner saying the Yankees' looked "flat" on Wednesday, I asked GM Brian Cashman today if he might summon a spark from Triple-A. Fans have clamored for Rob Refsnyder to replace Stephen Drew at second base. However, Cashman said the team will stand pat, noting that on Sept. 1 they will have call-ups when the rosters expand.

Strong stretch of play from Verlander

Justin Verlander came up 3 outs shy of a no-hitter Wednesday, the 4th no-hitter lost in the 9th inning this season. Verlander now has a 0.31 ERA in his last 4 starts -- his lowest ERA in any 4-start span in his career -- after a 5.05 ERA in his first 9 starts of the season.

Derek Jeter: Two pitchers stood out to me

When asked in a mailbag on the Players Tribune if he ever had any rivals, the former Yankees star wrote: "As a hitter, it's ultimately the aces in your division that become your true rivals. Those are the guys you see again and again, and they're the guys you have to go through to make the playoffs. For me, two names stand out: Pedro. Halladay."
