A Little League homer in the bigs

Not often do you see a single to right field turn into a trip around the bases, but Jose Bautista made it possible Thursday with a huge flub in right field.

Adrian Gonzalez: I'm '100 percent'

The Dodgers 1B was removed from Thursday's game with a right knee bruise, a move manager Don Mattingly called "precautionary." Gonzalez is expected to return to the lineup tonight. He was originally hurt in the 3rd inning when he fouled a pitch off his leg.

Quite a month for Madison Bumgarner

The reigning World Series MVP, who struck out 12 in 6 innings Thursday, improved to 5-0 this month. He joined Juan Marichal as the only Giants pitchers with three career months of 5-0 or better since the team moved to San Francisco in 1958. (via Elias)

Despite losing 11 of 12 entering Thursday, Bob Castellini said he wouldn't fire Bryan Price before the season is over: "You look at everything after the season. But that's not something we're going to get into now. Bryan's our manager."

That's the way to use your feet

A line drive ricocheted off Mets RHP Carlos Torres perfectly to 1B Daniel Murphy -- who flipped it back to Torres for the out. The good ol' 1-3-1.

It's going! It's going! It's -- off a catwalk

The Twins' Miguel Sano slugged a ball that was surely meant for the outfield stands -- but Tropicana Field's catwalk had other plans.

Melvin Upton Jr. channels Willie Mays

The Padres CF did his version of a basket catch in the team's loss to the Nationals.

Mets outlast Phils in final game to sweep

After being deadlocked since the fifth, the Mets scored four runs in the 13th to beat the Phillies 9-5 to win their seventh straight -- the third such streak this season. The Mets hit 13 long balls this series, the most they've ever hit in a series of any length (via Elias). Box score

Mets plate 4 in top of 13th vs. Phillies

With men on first and second with one out, Daniel Murphy ripped a double down the third-base line to score Carlos Torres and Curtis Granderson to grab the Mets' first lead of the game. The Mets would make it 9-5 by the end of the inning. Follow live

The Twins are hanging in the wild-card race, although their six-game win streak was snapped tonight. If they ARE going to win that second wild card they have to get better production from the outfield. Byron Buxton struck out four times and looks overmatched right now with 27 K's and three walks. And Torii Hunter is looking like he's 40, hitting .168 since July 1.
