Now in the 13th inning and after four-plus hours, if this game lasts much longer, perhaps Beltre's back will have time to fully heal and he can pinch-hit.

While the Cardinals take batting practice before game one of the NLDS, a fully uniformed Red Schoendienst yuks it up with fellow Hall of Famer and Cards alum Dennis Eckersley. With St. Louis, the 92-year old Schoendienst won a World Series both as a player (1946) and a manager (1967).

Scott Kazmir has "short leash" written all over him today. He posted a 6.52 ERA in September, while allowing 52 batters to reach by hit or walk in 29 innings. The Astros also have Mike Fiers available in long relief. But if Kazmir can handle KC's lefties, he greatly improves his chances of sticking around a while.

Salvador Perez cuts into Astros' lead

With two outs and nobody on in the bottom of the second, the Royals catcher Salvador Perez still got some offense going by taking Scott Kazmir deep to left to make it 3-1 Astros in Game 2 of the ALDS. Follow live

Blue Jays-Rangers still 4-4 in the 12th

Both bullpens have taken over as the only run since the fifth inning was Mike Napoli's game-tying RBI single in the eighth for the Rangers. The Blue Jays need this one to avoid a two-game deficit. Follow live

Springer brings in 2 to lengthen lead

With the bases loaded and one out, RF George Springer hit a bloop single into left off Royals RHP Johnny Cueto to build the Astros' lead in Game 2 of the ALDS to 3-0. Follow live

Colbert: Cubs are going to win it all

Stephen Colbert has had enough of the Curse of the Billy Goat and boldly guaranteed the Cubs will win the World Series: "I can safely say without any fear of jinxing it -- they're going all the way!"

The last time Jays reliever Mark Lowe pitched in the postseason was in 2011, when he was with Texas and gave up walk off HR in 11th to David Freese in epic 10-9 Game 6 Cardinals win in World Series

Something about the playoffs and the Astros' Colby Rasmus are in agreement. Rasmus has not only driven in the Astros' first run in all three playoff games this postseason, he has an extra-base hit in the first six playoff games of his career, an MLB record.

Astros at Royals in Game 2 of ALDS

Now would be a good time for Johnny Cueto to break out of his funk (6.49 ERA in last nine starts). His Royals face a one-game deficit with fellow trade-deadline acquisition Scott Kazmir trying to make it two for the Astros. Follow live

Puig makes Dodgers' NLDS roster

Yasiel Puig will mostly play off the bench as he continues to recover from hamstring injuries that kept him out more than two months season.

Bonus baseball in Toronto

The Rangers' Mike Napoli ripped an RBI single in the eighth inning to tie Game 2 vs. the Blue Jays at 4. Neither teams scored in the ninth, so to extra innings we go. Follow live

If the Royals' offense struggles again today, maybe they can unbronze this guy and insert him in the lineup in Houston.
