Blue Jays making playoff push

The Blue Jays traded for David Price to go along with their earlier big acquisition of Troy Tulowitzki. Toronto enters today 7 games back of the Yankees in the AL East and 2 games back of a wild card spot. Standings

Why the Blue Jays need David Price

Blue Jays starting pitchers have 2.18 strikeouts for every walk allowed this season. That is the fourth-lowest ratio in the majors. Three of the teams in the bottom four -- the Rangers (Hamels), Royals (Cueto) and now Blue Jays (Price) -- attempted to fix that issue this week by trading for veteran starters.

David Price headed to Toronto

The Tigers and Blue Jays have agreed to a deal that will send Price to Toronto for LHP Daniel Norris, according to ESPN sources and multiple reports. Detroit trades Price just a year after getting him from the Rays.

I don't care what happens today...I'm taking BP at 2 in Camden no matter what...don't care what anyone says

Kurkjian: David Price will be traded

ESPN's Tim Kurkjian on SportsCenter: "I would be shocked if he isn't moved before 4 p.m. ET tomorrow. Right now, it seems like it could be Toronto. ... [The Blue Jays] have not been to the playoffs since 1993. They got people excited last year and again this year." But Kurkjian said that the Astros, Dodgers and Yankees all remain in the hunt.

The deal that was, then wasn't

Around 9 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Mets SS Wilmer Flores and RHP Zack Wheeler were reportedly on their way to Milwaukee in exchange for OF Carlos Gomez. But by 11 p.m. ET, Mets GM Sandy Alderson said the trade "has not and will not transpire." Wait, what?

Did Cards panic over Matt Holliday?

Despite Holliday's injury, ESPN's Keith Law questions the Brandon Moss trade: "I can't get over the Cards giving up [Rob] Kaminsky, a former first-round pick who has performed very well throughout his pro career." 'Utterly baffling' (Insider)

Marlins cause a stink

The Nationals got a surprise when they hit the field at Marlins Park for batting practice and their soundtrack was replaced by fart noises. Really. Is this a case of whoever smelt it dealt it?

Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN

The details of the Hamels' trade underscores: PHI had far less leverage than expected, and were greatly boxed in by his no-trade provision.

Adam Rubin @AdamRubinESPN

Hard to tell where truth lies, but if that source has ties to Brewers or Gomez & agent, there's serious incentive to minimize any hip issue.

Adam Rubin @AdamRubinESPN

Not saying it's inaccurate, but it's easy to construct a believable narrative that Mets' finances played role.

Andrew Marchand @AndrewMarchand

It is in best interest of Brewers/Boras for it to be about $ than hips, but there are specific details that make you believe $ was a factor
