Amazin how the Carlos Gomez trade that fell threw to the #Mets helped both them (Cespedes) and the #Astros as much as it did

Andrew Marchand ESPN Senior Writer

Mashairo Tanaka is only four innings into his wild card start and he has already walked four batters, matching his season high. Tanaka had four walks on four different occasions this season. Joe Girardi has already gotten lefty Justin Wilson up in the pen. Wilson is usually the Yankees' seventh inning guy, but he was up during the fourth. The Yankees trail the Astros, 2-0.

Gordon Edes ESPN Staff Writer

While everyone raves about slugging Jays, Astros were 2d in majors in HRs with 230, only two fewer than Jays. Just another thing folks may not have known about the 'Stros.

Gomez's HR gives Astros 2-0 lead

Carlos Gomez hit the first pitch he saw in the 4th off Masahiro Tanaka for a solo HR as a 2-0 lead on ESPN. The Astros went 57-11 when they hit multiple home runs in the regular season, the best record in MLB.

Astros doing what they do....hit the long ball and watch their soon to be Cy Young Award Dallas Keuchel pitch

Jim Bowden ESPN Insider

Pitch counts don't matter in a wild card game .....only the way you are pitching in a win or go home game #Keuchel #Tanaka

Gordon Edes ESPN Staff Writer

Dallas Keuchel has thrown 100 or more pitches in 26 starts, maxing out at 122 on 9/27. None on 3 days' rest though. He's at 52 pitches through 3.

Keuchel's deception, late movement and ability to expand strike zone special right now #Astros

Keuchel cruising through 3

Dallas Keuchel has already struck out 5 Yankees through 3 innings, as the Astros hold a 1-0 lead. Houston is 58-21 when scoring first this season, while New York is 23-51 when opponents score first this season. Live on ESPN, WatchESPN

Every time someone mentions Clayton Kershaw's 0-4 7+ post-season ERA all I can think about is statistics waiting to be corrected #Dodgers

Great body control by former Gold Glove 3B Chase Headley and perhaps even a better call by 1B umpire Paul Emmel #Yankees

Andrew Marchand @AndrewMarchand

When Chase Headley is making bare-handed plays and throwing accurately, it may be the Yankees' night after all. 1-0, Astros, in the third.

Jim Bowden ESPN Insider

Jeff Luhnow told me today that in his opinion the three prong reason his #Astros were able to win a year ahead of schedule were: 1. Keuchel & McHugh consistency 2. The youthful energy and enthusiasm and 3. The June 8th call-up of Carlos Correa

Wallace Matthews ESPN Staff Writer

Masahiro Tanaka escaped from a tight spot in the second inning-- bases loaded with two out -- and allowed just one run. But his pitch count is already at 39, so don't be surprised to see action in the Yankees bullpen soon. Adam Warren and Bryan Mitchell are Joe Girardi's long men tonight.

Colby Rasmus smashes HR to right field

The Astros LF drilled a home run to put his team up 1-0 in the top of the second vs. the Yankees in the AL wild-card game on ESPN. Houston missed a chance to score more, though, as Jose Altuve grounded out with the bases loaded to end the inning.
