OTD: Armando Galarraga's imperfect game

Five years ago today, the Tigers RHP had a perfect game through 8 2/3. But Indians SS Jason Donald was called safe by umpire Jim Joyce on a grounder to first, a call that became controversial on replays. Said Joyce after the game: "I just cost that kid a perfect game."

Gallo a 'big time, big impact' prospect

With Joey Gallo, Buster Olney said on SportsCenter, the Rangers are thinking: "'Let's call him up now. We give him a taste of the big leagues.' No pressure because so many other guys in that lineup are doing great."

OTD: Lou Gehrig replaces Wally Pipp

On June 2, 1925, Wally Pipp had a headache and popped a couple of Aspirin, so Lou Gehrig stepped in at first -- and "The Iron Horse" would not miss a game for the next 2,128 games. Said Wally Pipp: "I took the two most expensive Aspirin in history."

Mets' deGrom has string of good starts

Jacob deGrom had 8 K's and no walks in a win Monday vs. the Padres. It was his third straight start with at least 8 K's and no walks. According to Elias, he is the third pitcher since 1900 to have three consecutive appearances with that stat line (Cliff Lee, 2013; Ferguson Jenkins, 1976).

Lauren Haeger setting the bar

The Gators pitcher has 71 career home runs and 72 wins, something no player has ever done in NCAA baseball history. And according to Elias, only one player has ever done so in MLB: Babe Ruth.

Seriously, who eats Kit Kats like this?

After teammate Dee Gordon tweeted a photo of Giancarlo Stanton's unique Kit Kat-eating technique earlier Monday, reps from the candy company sent the slugger 432 Kit Kats and some handy instructions to use for practice.

BBTN's Monday Web Gem

Marwin Gonzalez had a throw to first that reminded the BBTN crew of a dancer, but is it enough to dethrone Alex Gordon's 31-time winner?

Mariners hitting coach: Cano is pressing

Robinson Cano, Seattle's $240 million man, is hitting .246 with only 2 HRs this season. Explains Howard Johnson: "He's a proud guy and when things got off a little slow for him, it's easy to press, even out here in Seattle. ... The main thing I know for sure he is going to be all right, he is going to snap out of it."
