The Tigers have held eight of their first 13 opponents to one run or fewer, tied for the most through 13 games in the live ball era. The only other teams to accomplish that feat since 1920 were the 1927 Cardinals and the 1981 Athletics.

Kris Bryant and Addison Russell are the Cubs' shiny new toys, but don't forget about the right fielder who debuted last season. Soler is batting .320, has a 7-game hit streak, and went 4-for-5 with 2 runs in Monday's win over Pittsburgh.

Starlin Castro wants to end criticism

The Cubs SS has taken criticism for lapses in defense on easy plays in his career. Said Castro: " I don't want to be no joke anymore. ... Sometimes the errors I make are because I don't have the confidence and I stay back on the ball. Now I stay aggressive."

For Bryan Price's peace of mind, he should look at this way: Everything gets out. And when it doesn't, he can view that as a bonus.

Love the Cubs decision to promote Addison Russell. Evaluators think he's ready, and why not develop the group together? Nothing to lose.
