Stephen Colbert has had enough of the Curse of the Billy Goat and boldly guarantees the Cubs will win the World Series: "I can safely say without any fear of jinxing it -- they're going all the way!"

Here's the Cardinals' starting lineup for game one of the NLDS vs. the Cubs. Catcher Yadier Molina is in there, batting seventh and wearing a protective splint on his injured left thumb. It's the first time that Molina - who's been an All-Star in each of the last seven seasons - has played since tearing a ligament in the thumb while making a tag on Sept. 20.

ICYMI: Man vs. tarp and plastic wins

A Royals grounds crew member tripped during the rain delay -- and the tarp showed no mercy in running him over.

Stroman settles in after first 2 innings

After giving up three hits to start the game, Blue Jays RHP Marcus Stroman hasn't allowed a hit vs. the Rangers since. And the Jays got Stroman a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the 5th from Ben Revere's RBI single. Follow live

Lloyd McClendon is a great baseball man and he'll land somewhere, but it was probably never going to work with him and Jerry Dipoto in Seattle. Hard to build continuity and a consistent winner when GM and manager come at it from such different perspectives.

Longoria shares strange Maddon story

Rays 3B Evan Longoria identified the weirdest clubhouse moment with former Rays coach and current Cubs coach Joe Maddon. It involves a Mariachi band and his locker.

Blue Jays tie it up at 3

An error from Rangers 3B Hanser Alberto -- in for the injured Adrian Beltre -- started off the bottom of the second, and the Jays capitalized with an RBI hit from Russell Martin and Kevin Pillar's groundout. Follow live

Jim Caple Senior Writer,

Playing in place of Adrian Beltre, Hanser Alberto drove in a run with a sac fly, though Rougned Odor's slide home was probably more of a factor than the short fly. But Alberto also made an error to start Blue Jays rally in bottom of second to tie game 3-3.

Blue Jays respond in bottom of 1st

Jays 3B Josh Donaldson appears to be just fine after being kneed in the head in Thurday's game -- he homered off Rangers ace Cole Hamels to cut into the Rangers' lead 2-1 in the first. Follow live

You won't see that every day. Jays first baseman Chris Colabello pulls off unassisted DP by personally tagging out Prince Fielder 'tween 3d and home

A.J. Hinch met with Carlos Gomez to tell him Jake Marisnick is starting again in CF in Game 2 for Astros. "He's completely on board," Hinch said "He understands where I'm coming from." Gomez is receiving treatment for intercostal strain. Available to pinch-hit or for late inning defense today.

Blue Jays with rough first inning

The Rangers jumped all over Jays RHP Marcus Stroman early with three hits, and a throwing error from Jays catcher Russell Martin put Texas up 2-0 early. But a heads-up double play from 1B Chris Colabello got Toronto out of what could've been a more disastrous inning. Follow live

Adam Rubin @AdamRubinESPN

I'm told Steven Matz feels great and is fully expected to be on the NLDS roster as the Game 4 starter. Roster officially due at 1 p.m.. ET.

Sweater weather in Kansas City today for Game 2 of the Astros-Royals ALDS, with AccuWeather forecasting an optimistic high of 66 degrees. No pop-up showers predicted after last night's 49-minute rain delay. Wind blowing in from LF at about 8 mph, making a big park play even bigger.

Baseball Tonight @BBTN

Things aren't looking good for the Blue Jays. With Shin-Soo Choo caught in a rundown, Russell Martin's throwing error allows him to score.

Update: Mariners fire Lloyd McClendon

The Mariners manager was fired today. Seattle had not made the playoffs in McClendon's two years there, going 87-75 his first year -- missing the postseason by one game -- and 76-86 this season.

I knew Adam Wainwright was a big deal in St. Louis. But who knew the state named a whole building after him.
