Miguel Cabrera to make Monday debut
LAKELAND, Fla. -- Miguel Cabrera will be in the Detroit Tigers' lineup for the first time this spring as a designated hitter in Monday's exhibition game against the New York Yankees.
Cabrera missed the first week of camp after being arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol Feb. 16 near Fort Pierce, Fla. He reported to camp Thursday. Cabrera finished second in American League MVP voting last season.
He put on a power show in batting practice Sunday morning before the Tigers' exhibition game against the Toronto Blue Jays, their second game of the spring. Manager Jim Leyland announced Sunday that Cabrera would play against the Yankees.
