MNF announcer to make NBA debut on Christmas
NEW YORK -- Al Michaels will be the lead play-by-play announcer on ABC's coverage of the NBA this season.
Michaels, who teams with John Madden on ABC's "Monday Night Football," will make his NBA debut on Christmas. Michaels will also be the lead play-by-play announcer for the playoffs and each game of the NBA Finals.
"I have been fortunate over the last 27 years at ABC to have covered numerous World Series, Super Bowls and Olympic Games, and a vast array of memorable and classic events. And now, to be able to add the NBA to my 'Monday Night Football' assignment creates a perfect combination," Michaels said Monday.
Michaels made the famous call of "Do you believe in miracles? Yes!" while announcing the U.S. hockey team's upset win over the Soviet Union at the 1980 Olympics and received a nomination for a news Emmy for his coverage of the San Francisco earthquake during the 1989 World Series.
