Griffin free to seek alcohol treatment
New Jersey Nets' forward Eddie Griffin was released from jail Friday to enter a residential alcohol treatment program, the (Newark, N.J.) Star-Ledger reports.
Griffin had been jailed since Feb. 2 for a curfew violation, which broke one of the terms of his bond for a felony assault charge.
Harris County (Texas) judge Mike Anderson ruled Friday to release Griffin for the next 30 days so he could seek treatment, the Star-Ledger reported. After the 30-day period, Anderson is to re-evaluate Griffin's bond.
Griffin was indicted on Thursday on the charge he hit a woman in the face and shot at her at she drove away from his home in October, Houston television station KRIV reported.
Griffin went on leave from the Nets on Jan. 28 so he could undergo six weeks of treatment for alcohol abuse.
Griffin signed with the Nets in January, a few weeks after being released by the Houston Rockets.
