Houston Rockets: Center Yao Ming sat out the Rockets' game against New Orleans on Friday night because of a sore right calf.

The Hornets won 76-73 in Houston.

Yao hurt the calf Wednesday night against Portland when he was fouled hard by Trail Blazers center Ha Seung Jin. The results of a MRI exam early Friday showed nothing serious, but Yao was still scratched from the game just a few hours before tipoff.

"The test revealed that there was nothing there," Rockets trainer Keith Jones said. "He's day to day."

Yao, averaging 18.2 points and 8.2 rebounds, has missed only one other game in his three-year career. He sat out Dec. 31 against Milwaukee because of the flu.

Dikembe Mutombo took Yao's place in the starting lineup.

Los Angeles Clippers: Corey Maggette and Chris Kaman missed the Los Angeles Clippers game against Detroit on Friday night because of back injuries.

Maggette leads the Clippers in scoring at 21.9 points a game, and Kaman, who attended Central Michigan University, is averaging 8.7 points and 6.6 rebounds.

The Clippers lost 97-84 at Auburn Hills, Mich.
