Junior guard will maintain amateur status
Stanford junior guard Chris Hernandez will declare for the NBA draft and maintain his amateur status by not hiring an agent, coach Trent Johnson told ESPN.com's Andy Katz on Monday.
Johnson said Hernandez, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound point guard, wants to see if he'll receive an invitation to the Chicago predraft camp, which runs for five days beginning June 7.
Hernandez led Stanford to an 18-13 season and 2005 NCAA Tournament bid. The Cardinal were routed by Mississippi State in the first round 93-70.
Hernandez average 15.2 points per game and shot 43 percent from the floor.
Stanford rebounded to finish third in the Pac-10 this season, despite losing leading scorer Dan Grunfeld to a knee injury on Feb. 12.
