Patterson, Miles don't want to be in Portland
Frustration boiled over among the Trail Blazers after a 102-90 loss to the Mavericks on Thursday night.
Ruben Patterson told the Portland Oregonian after the game that he wanted to be traded in the offseason and didn't want to play even the final four games for the team.
"I don't want to get into details, but I think I'm gonna sit out these last four games," Patterson told the paper. "Because I went through so much for this team and it doesn't seem like these guys want to win here.
"And I can't deal with that. I don't know if it's management or what, but it's obvious they want to play the young guys. I'm too good of a player for that. We are out there, trying to play hard and help this team win, and it seems like they don't care."
Patterson has averaged 30.4 minutes and 15 points per game this month, but his playing time has fluctuated.
Darius Miles was also heated. He left the court in the first half, but returned, then left the game in the fourth quarter rubbing his neck, which drew the ire of coach Kevin Pritchard.
"I hurt and came out of the game," Miles told the paper.
After the game, he met with Pritchard and shouting was heard from the meeting, according to the Oregonian.
"I play for the Trail Blazers and I'm supposed to be here for another five years," Miles told the paper when asked about the meeting. "It's not whether I want to be. But I have a contract for five years, so I'm supposed to be here. I might want to be here, but they might trade me somewhere else."
The Blazers are 3-20 since coach Maurice Cheeks was fired and Pritchard, the team's director of player personnel, was appointed on an interim basis.
Frustration is endemic on the team and was evident as the Portland players left the court. Rookie Sebastian Telfair, who had 13 points and seven assists, bowed his head as he filed slowly toward the locker room.
"Everything has come to a boiling point and some people wanted to vent tonight," guard Damon Stoudamire said. "You are just counting down the days when you are playing in this situation. It is what it is."
