The Bulls waived the 6-foot-10 forward on Wednesday, in time for him to be eligible to play in the postseason were he to sign with another team.
Acquired by Chicago in a trade with the New York Knicks on Oct. 4, Thomas played in only three games this season, averaging 4.3 points and 1.3 rebounds.
The Phoenix Suns, who need a replacement for the injured Kurt Thomas, and the New Jersey Nets reportedly are interested in signing Thomas for the stretch run.
Thomas, who was a high school star in Paterson, N.J., was the seventh pick in the 1997 draft. Owed $13.9 million this season, Thomas is in the final year of his contract.
