Lynam, Malone return to 76ers as assistant coaches

PHILADELPHIA -- Jim Lynam is back with the Philadelphia 76ers. So is the player who led them to their last NBA championship.

Lynam, who coached the 76ers from 1987-92, and former center Moses Malone on Thursday were named assistant coaches for the team.

Lynam went 328-392 with the Los Angeles Clippers franchise, Sixers and Washington Bullets, including 194-173 during his 4½ seasons in Philadelphia. Also the team's general manager from 1992-94, Lynam had been named an assistant prior to last season but left the squad late in the preseason due to health concerns.

A Hall of Famer and 12-time All-Star, Malone led the Sixers to the NBA title in 1983, when he won his third league MVP award in his first of five seasons with the team. Malone played two seasons in the ABA before joining the Houston Rockets in 1976 - his first of 19 years in the NBA.

Malone, who averaged 21 points and 12 rebounds with Philadelphia, will work primarily with the Sixers' big men. He was a team consultant last season.
