Warriors-Sonics game delayed by scoreboard fire
SEATTLE -- The Seattle SuperSonics' game against the Golden State Warriors was delayed about 15 minutes Sunday night when a small fire broke out on the underside of the large scoreboard above the court.
During a timeout with 7 minutes left in the first quarter, arena officials noticed a small fire coming from a spotlight attached to the bottom of the scoreboard, with smoke shooting from the top of the scoreboard.
KeyArena staff placed a tarp on the court and lowered the scoreboard just above the floor. Seattle firefighters then used an extinguisher to put out the flames and detached the spotlight from the scoreboard.
Golden State led 17-8 at the time.
