Wizards hope Butler, out with a hip injury, can return Sunday
Caron Butler did not return in the Wizards' 96-87 loss the Jazz tonight, missing his third game with a strained left hip flexor. Butler has made his last 70 free throws, a team record and the longest streak within a single NBA season since Sam Cassell made 71 in a row in 2004 (Jan. 14-Feb. 8). Butler went 63-for-63 from the foul line during January, tying the NBA's all-time record for free throws made without a miss during a calendar month. The mark was set by Micheal Williams of the Timberwolves in April 1993.

"He's out tonight," Wizards coach Eddie Jordan said before the game. "Hopefully he'll be ready to go on Sunday."
Jordan said Butler is undergoing rehab for his strained left hip flexor. Although Butler had a stomach virus Thursday, Jordan said it was the hip that kept him out of Friday's game.
Butler was picked for his second straight All-Star Game Thursday. He is averaging 21.9 points, 4.3 assists and 2.4 steals, all career highs, and 7.0 rebounds.
Butler was hurt in Sunday's game at Milwaukee.
