Maloof brothers to give away cash on 'Oprah's Big Give'
SACRAMENTO, Calif -- Sacramento Kings owners Joe and Gavin Maloof are eager to let other people give away their money.
They will appear on Sunday's episode of "Oprah's Big Give," the highly rated philanthropy competition produced by Oprah Winfrey in which contestants help other people in need.
The Maloof brothers, who have donated $13 million to various Sacramento-area charities since buying the Kings nine years ago, will present the show's competitors with a suitcase full of their own cash, giving them just 24 hours to do good with it.
"The benevolent influence of our parents instilled a strong belief in assisting those in need," Gavin Maloof said. "We are very fortunate to be able to give back and really enjoy lending a helping hand to those within the communities we live."
Maloof Sports and Entertainment built and donated 12 learning centers to schools and community centers in the Sacramento area over the past five years. The Maloofs also handed out 500 new bicycles to needy children during the 2006 holiday season.
