MIAMI -- Pat Riley is back on the scouting trail.

The Miami Heat coach was studying players in the NCAA tournament on Friday and wasn't expected to be with the team for its game with the Washington Wizards.

Assistant coach Ron Rothstein filled in when Riley missed a game against Orlando last week while on another scouting trip. Rothstein was handling the game-day coaching responsibilities on Friday, and was expected to stay in that role Saturday when the Heat visit Charlotte.

The Heat (12-55) have struggled with injuries this season. Star Dwyane Wade ended his season early because of a long-troublesome left knee.
