Donaghy now due to be sentenced May 30
Former NBA referee Tim Donaghy's sentencing has been delayed again.
Donaghy, who pleaded guilty last August to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and transmitting betting information across state lines, was scheduled to be sentenced on April 18 at U.S. District Court in Brooklyn. That has now been pushed to May 30, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
Donaghy, 41, has been free on $250,000 bond. He resigned as an NBA referee on July 9.
Court papers say Donaghy started placing bets on NBA games in 2003. He then gave gamblers inside information, including tips on which crews would officiate games and how the various officials and players interacted, according to the documents. He faces up to 25 years in prison and up to a $500,000 fine.
Donaghy is expected to testify in the trials of two former high school friends, James Battista of Phoenixville and Thomas Martino of Marcus Hook, who were charged in connection with the betting scheme. Their trial is set to open on April 28.
A federal grand jury indicted Battista and Martino in Febuary on charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to transmit wagering information. Martino additionally faces perjury charges.
Information from the Associated Press was used in this report.
