PHILADELPHIA -- Former NBA coach Doug Collins says he's "intrigued" by the possibility of returning to Philadelphia to coach the 76ers.

Collins says he met with 76ers general manager Ed Stefanski and other team officials for five hours Saturday at his home in Scottsdale, Ariz.

The former 76ers player said in a statement Monday the team holds "a special place in my heart and I am intrigued by the opportunity to return to Philadelphia."

Collins is an NBA analyst with TNT.

Collins played for the Sixers before he went on to coach Chicago, Detroit and Washington.

"We had a very productive meeting yesterday with Doug to discuss the position and his philosophies," Stefanski said in a team release. "He is someone who has a proven track record as a head coach and has great knowledge of the game."

The 76ers also interviewed former Dallas coach and current ESPN analyst Avery Johnson on Monday.
