Byron Scott's number to be retired
The school will honor Scott by retiring his No. 11 on Thursday night during a game against Washington. Former Sun Devils standout and current Memphis Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins is also being honored.
Scott, who played at ASU from 1979-83, said he wore No. 11 all through high school and college as a tribute to his favorite player, Bob McAdoo. Scott hoped to continue wearing the number in the NBA, but when he was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in 1983, McAdoo already had the number.
Scott said it took him two years to work up the courage to tell McAdoo that he was his hero.
