Rockets win summer league opener
LAS VEGAS -- James White led the Houston Rockets to a 73-69 victory over the Golden State Warriors in the opening game of the 2009 NBA Summer League presented by EA Sports.
Anthony Randolph led all scorers with 20 points for the Warriors while White led the Rockets with 14 points. Both teams struggled from the field, the Warriors shooting just .377 percent while the Rockets connected on just .407 percent.
"We got a lot of new guys and a lot of guys who haven't been playing together, so we were just working on our chemistry today," said Rockets forward, White. "As the game went on, we got better - it was a great win and I'm looking forward to winning more games."
In the opening quarter, the Rockets trailed by as many as nine before taking their first lead of the contest with just over one minute left in the period. Randolph led the Warriors with 12 first quarter points while White and Will Conroy tallied five points a piece for the Rockets.
The Rockets dominated the second quarter building their lead to 10 and took an eight lead at halftime
The Warriors fought back in the third quarter outscoring the Rockets by nine to take a one point lead heading into the final quarter.
In an evenly matched fourth quarter, the Rockets took the lead for good as Joey Dorsey made the go-ahead basket with four minutes left in the contest.
Golden State will take on the Sacramento Kings on Saturday at 5 p.m. while the Rockets will play host to the Dallas Mavericks Saturday at 7 p.m.
