Jennings dominates as Bucks roll
LAS VEGAS -- Brandon Jennings scored 23 points as the Milwaukee Bucks defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 80-69 in the night-cap at the 2009 NBA Summer League presented by EA Sports on the campus of UNLV in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Both squads got off to slow starts before Milwaukee upped the tempo of the game to secure the 11-point lead.
Jennings dominated all game long, scoring seven points in the first quarter, a period in which neither team led by more than four points. During the first, the teams knotted in five times and the lead changed hands two times before the Bucks finished the period up one, 24-23.
"I played alright tonight, the main thing is that we got the win, though," said Jennings on the game. "We're 2-0 now and our goal is to go 5-0 this summer, so as long as we get the wins, I'm happy."
In the second quarter, the Cavaliers fought back, outscoring the Bucks 18-13 to take a four-point lead, 41-37, going into the halftime break. Jennings added five points in the quarter to lead all scorers with 12 first-half points.
Milwaukee charged out of the break going on a 25-3 run in the first six minutes of the third period to lock in a commanding 62-44 lead over the Cavaliers. Jennings and Jodie Meeks each scored eight points during the quarter, while only three cavaliers (Terance Kinsey,Christian Eyenga and Leo Lyons) scored a total of nine points. Cleveland scored six of their nine in the final minute of the period to end the quarter down by 15, 56-50.
